Voiding checks in 6.0.9

We work hard to make sure RPM is as straightforward as possible. That’s why in version 6.0.9, we’ve removed a redundant bit of functionality to make the Utilities menu simpler.

Previously, there was a screen in the Transaction utilities called Void Checks. This was useful nearly a decade ago, when checks could only be voided using this utility. Now, since there are easier ways to void checks, the Void Checks utility is obsolete.

In 2017, it became possible to void checks (and other types of transactions) directly from the Transaction Detail screen using the Void button. If you had previously been voiding checks from the Void Checks utility, follow along below to learn how to void them from the Transaction Detail screen instead.

First, locate the transaction in question in RPM. This can be anywhere transactions are listed, including the View Trans tab for a client, the Transactions screen, or the Reconcile screen.

Once you’ve located the transaction, click the Details button to open the Transaction Detail screen.

On the Transaction Detail screen, click Void to void this transaction.

Note: If the void button is not clickable, check to see if the transaction is being reconciled and whether you have security rights to void this type of transaction from the Detail screen. You may need to have your security rights changed by an administrator at your company to allow you to void.

Clicking Void will open the Void Transaction screen, which will look familiar (it has the same basic fields as the old Void Check screen). If necessary, change the void date and enter any relevant memo or notes. To create a new check for printing, enable that option and confirm the date of the check.

Finally, click Void again to finish voiding the transaction.

If you void a transaction and then realize it doesn’t need to be voided after all, don’t panic! We have instructions for how to un-void transactions here: Removing a void check.
