Using queries
Queries in RPM can be used to view report information in a format you can manipulate.
Where to find queries
All query options in RPM can be found on the Reports screen.
Preset reports
Many of the preset reports in the system have an additional query option you can use to view the same data in a different format.
To access the query option, open a preset report and click the Query button, as shown below.

The information will display in a table format like the above. Just like with the preset report, your date range, filters, and other selection options on the Reports screen will determine the data that displays.
Note: Sometimes, queries contain additional columns of information that aren’t included in the corresponding preset report.
Custom reports
All custom reports in RPM will display in query format. With custom reports, you can run queries with all available columns, or you can choose specific columns to include using the Custom Report Column Selection screen.
After choosing specific columns, you can also save different column configurations for use later.
For more instructions on using custom reports, see our Reports article.
How to manipulate queries
When you run a query, you can simply view the information in columns on the screen, or you can manipulate the information in a variety of ways.
Within RPM
At the top of each column of information in a query, you will find a down arrow symbol next to the column name. Click this symbol to open a context menu containing your options for sorting and filtering your query on these values.

The gif below shows an example of filtering the Budget Detail query to see just the fees budgeted to be paid to ABC Payee. There are multiple possible ways to narrow down this information; the gif shows only one possible way.

For more details on finding, filtering, and sorting, see our article about that here.
Outside RPM
You can always move query data to an outside program to work with it there. To do so, simply use the select all (“Ctrl+A”), copy (“Ctrl+C”), and paste (“Ctrl+V) shortcuts on your keyboard.
If you are signed in to Microsoft Office on the same computer you’re using for RPM, you can use the Export to Excel and Export to Word buttons at the top of the screen to open the query directly in either of those programs.

If you have an RPM Cloud license, see our article about using Microsoft Office in RPM Cloud for more details about using Excel in your Cloud server.
